Restaurant Of The Month: French Toast

Don’t you just sometimes feel overwhelmed by the amount of choices one is faced with when choosing a restaurant?  If you are a creature of habit like me, you tend to stick to the places you know and trust. But where’s the fun in that, right? So, in an effort to rectify this predicament, my new mantra for this month is to step out of my comfort zone, and to explore new places.
It has become evident to me that no matter how well you think you know your neighbourhood haunts, there always seems to be a little gem tucked away amongst the impressive structures of the city.  One of those gems that has been revealed in my explorations, is French Toast wine and tapas bar.
Situated in Bree Street, an up and coming hub for restaurants, French Toast offers a unique, relaxed, yet classy atmosphere to meet up with friends for a glass of wine after work, or to have a romantic dinner for two.
The interior consists of lavish, comfortable leather couches, exposed brick walls and beautiful rich wooden and metal fixtures. The unique industrial features of the bar are credited to the fact that the building was originally used as a city warehouse.

One can expect a comprehensive range of national and international wines, which one can sample through their “wine flight” menu.  This entails a choice of three 50ml glasses of wine of your choice, accompanied by tasting notes.  If you feel the need to soak up some of the excess wine, you can choose amongst their impressive variety of Mediterranean style tapas.
The cheese platter offers a satisfying array of local and international cheeses, and can be enjoyed with delectable salty charcuterie ( Italian montanara, salami, Italian parma ham, Spanish chorizo and jamon Serrano) served with olives, caper berries, and basket loads of ciabata.
If you favour a taste of the sea, their prawns fried in a spicy peri-peri sauce hits all the right notes.  If you are a vegetarian, don’t fear: this menu also provides a yummy variety of veggie treats as well.
On a sweeter note, the dessert menu include treats such as churros con chocolate (small deep fried doughnuts served with chocolate sauce), or French toast accompanied by dessert wine or Port.  Even though this is not the cheapest tapas bar I’ve ever visited, the quality of their food and service makes it all the worth while.  A definite must!
