Apart from the natural splendours and abundant activities
the Republic of Hout Bay has to offer (yes, they consider themselves a
republic) this seaside community have become increasingly noteworthy as a
culinary destination; boasting with over forty restaurants.
Amongst all the hustle and bustle and gastronomic
treasures of the town, lies a modest gem called The Boardroom Creperie and
Coffee Bar. As you approach the bar, you are met with the reassuring smell of
freshly brewed coffee and smiling faces. A quick peek through the menu reveals
the fundamentals that make this bar so popular amongst locals; savoury
splendours such as the El Greko (spinach, sun-dried tomato, feta, olives and
origanum) or Fat Freddy (scrambled eggs, sweet corn, jalapeño peppers and free
range bacon) are the perfect way to start your day. For those of you with a
sweet tooth, try their Honey Bee Crepe with honey, almonds and cinnamon, or
their oh-so-delicious What The Fudge, made from homemade fudge and almonds.
Friendly staff and a shadowed deck provide the perfect
setting for a chilled retreat. Catch up on the local gossip, or just steal a
couple of quiet moments for yourself under the age-old Palm Trees. Next to the
vibey café is an inspirational shop where recycled sailing cloth is used to
create items such as bags, dog collars, belts and kite jackets. Owned by big
wave surfer and all-round adrenaline junkie, Michael Schlebach, one can also
rent a surfboard or book an extreme Jet Ski tour while waiting for your coffee.
