Summer
I
absolutely adore listening to the laughter of children playing under the caress
of the sun; or seeking the refuge of a shady tree on a warm summer’s day. A quote
that sums up the essence of this season beautifully is one from Ada Louise
Huxtable: “Summer is the time one sheds
one’s tensions with one’s clothes, and the right kind of day is jewelled balm
for the battered spirit. A few of those
days and you can become drunk with the belief that all’s right with the world.”
We therefore
shed those winter slow cooked stews and belly-warming soups, and say hello to
light and fresh produce that are so bountiful during this festive season!
Fruits and
vegetables in season:
Apricots,
cling peaches, dessert peaches, fennel, figs, melons, litchis, asparagus,
mangoes, nectarines, raspberries, strawberries, seedless grapes and watermelon.
Look out
for my weekday menu ideas that uitilise some of these wonderful produce. Until next time my readers, happy cooking.
